The Cursillo helps those that are baptized have the knowledge and conviction to live their faith more deeply and actively in their daily lives. Cursillos In Christianity means: "Short course in Christianity." The heart of the Cursillo lies in living the three day experience, making it possible to have a deep encounter with oneself, with God and with others. Different talks are shared on various topics given by priests, deacons and laypersons which deal with life, the Catholic faith and a method to bring Christ into the modern world. **"In my years in ministry I have been so edified by the people who have had Cursillo as part of their faith journey. What is most striking is that it is not simply a retreat, but a reframing of one's perspective on their journey in faith that lasts long after the retreat is over, usually for a lifetime."** The purpose of the Cursillo Movement is to encourage Catholics to live their faith more deeply and actively in their daily lives. Forming small Christian communities in their neighborhoods, parishes, work and other places where they live the greater part of their lives. The movement also encourages the formation of small friendship groups to come together to be better friends and to form, strengthen and persevere a life in grace. The Cursillo Weekend is the central phase of the Cursillo Movement. It is a profound 3-day experience of a personal encounter with oneself, with Christ and with others. The spirit of the living Christ is renewed, examined and enjoyed in the Cursillo. During the Cursillo weekend basic Christian beliefs and truths are reviewed. The weekend is the first introduction for many people to the power of genuine Christian community. **"Cursillo is an instrument raised up by God for the proclamation of the gospel in our time."** "Cursillos for me has been an experience that I will never forget in my life and it has made me feel that Christ truly walks by my side" was a growth in faith. It was knowing Jesus more deeply." Cursillos in Christianity is an apostolic movement of the Roman Catholic Church. It was founded in Mallorca, Spain by a group of lay people in 1944, led by Eduardo Bonnin. The Cursillo focuses on showing lay Christians how to become effective Christian leaders over the course of a three-day weekend. The weekend includes fifteen talks, given by priests, deacons and laypersons. These talks are called “rollos.” In a more complete sense, Cursillo is an experience of people brought together in a small community for Christ to promote their growth in grace and intensify their ability to be his witnesses in the world. During the Pre-Cursillo phase, participants engage in activities such as attending small friendship groups called "Group Reunion" who come together to be better friends and to form, strengthen and persevere a life in grace and Ultreya events to prepare themselves for the Cursillo weekend, where they will have the opportunity to experience a deeper encounter with God and their faith community. To attend a Cursillo Weekend, you need to be sponsored by someone who has already attended a Cursillo Weekend. You can reach out to your local parish Cursillo community or fill out the Contact Us form to inquire about the process for attending. This is about taking the time to look within ourselves and assess our lives. ## We often overlook and fail to recognize the presence of God, yet we unknowingly yearn for him. Encountering God means seeing him in our lives and situations, and understanding that he has a special message for us. ## We live surrounded by people, both loved ones and strangers, but we often overlook the fact that we are more alike than we realize. Coming together with others helps us grow and achieve greater things. # **Weekend Application** # **Team Application** Cursillo (pronounced **kur-see-yo**) is a Spanish word meaning "short course". It's a short course in Christianity that begins on a Thursday evening and ends Sunday evening. During those three days the Cursillistas (those attending the weekend) live and work together, listening to talks given by priests and laypeople. It takes the person as they are, with all their situations and makes them capable of uniting themselves with God. During this Cursillo weekend there will be a structured program that includes moments of prayer, reflection, and study. A Cursillo can be made only once in a lifetime, therefore it is not a substitute for a retreat. Actually the Cursillo makes succeeding retreats more profitable and Cursillistas are encouraged to make regular retreats. The basic atmosphere of a Cursillo differs greatly from the individual solitude of a retreat. The Cursillo weekend is not silent. The teachings of Christ are experienced and shared in a climate of joy and a spirit of community. During the talks the Cursillistas take notes and each talk is followed by a discussion period within a small group. The Cursillo is a powerful instrument of renewal in the Church. Its aim is to concentrate closely on the Person and teachings of Jesus Christ. The Cursillo gives those who attend a living understanding of basic Christian truths and a desire to serve the Church. To have a personal encounter with Christ, which begins with an encounter with oneself and is completed with an encounter with others, awakening the sense of community through living in friendship, initiating the desire in order to have a conscious and growing conversion, strengthening their Catholic faith, so they can live their faith in a more authentic and committed way. The purpose of the Post-Cursillo is to see Christ in every moment in you life. It is the effort made so that the candle remains lit and illuminates others in all the environments in which we live. This is achieved through Group Reunions, Ultreyas, and School of Leaders. It is a group of Cursillista friends who want to live and share in friendship. The purpose of the reunion is to provide a supportive and nurturing environment for spiritual growth and accountability. Participants share their experiences, discuss their spiritual journey, and offer mutual support and encouragement. The group reunion is an important part of the Cursillo movement, helping participants to stay connected and continue their spiritual development after the initial Cursillo weekend experience. The Ultreya is a time for Cursillo participants to come together for fellowship, prayer, and to share their experiences of living out their faith in their daily lives. The word "Ultreya" comes from the Spanish phrase "¡Ultreya y Suseya!" which means "Onward and Upward!" It is a time for encouragement and mutual support as participants continue their spiritual journey. The School of Leaders is designed to train and equip leaders within the Cursillo community to effectively carry out the mission of the movement. It provides education, training, and formation for individuals who have completed a Cursillo weekend and want to take on leadership roles within the movement. The School of Leaders typically offers ongoing formation, study, and discussion on topics related to the Cursillo method and its application in daily life. In the Cursillo Movement, the word palanca is used “To designate the spiritual force represented by voluntary prayers and sacrifices which are done individually or in community with the aim of obtaining the grace of conversion”. Palanca allows us to accomplish more than we can ever possibly do on our own! Palanca must be genuine, sincere, permanent, and individual and community oriented; insuring the efficiency in taking the other steps, founded on Christ’s table: *"****Ask*** *and you shall receive,* ***seek*** *and you shall find,* ***knock*** *and it shall be opened to you? This motto reflects the joy of encouraging and encouraging the trainees. The Ultreya is a jubilee meeting broader than group meetings, "It is the Meeting of Friendship Groups." There you live and coexist with the same atmosphere of Cursillo. At Ultreya, cursillistas from different groups come together to share their joy to strengthen communion among themselves, share their spiritual experiences and encourage each other in their Christian and apostolic journey. This motto reflects the joy of encouraging and encouraging the trainees. The Ultreya is a jubilee meeting broader than group meetings, "It is the Meeting of Friendship Groups." There you live and coexist with the same atmosphere of Cursillo. At Ultreya, cursillistas from different groups come together to share their joy to strengthen communion among themselves, share their spiritual experiences and encourage each other in their Christian and apostolic journey. In summary, Ultreya is a key component in the Christianity Cursillo movement, it is a means of perseverance, to 'make Church, strengthening groups of Christians who live Grace in a conscious and growing way, who leave the Gospel fermenting in their environments. If the Cursillo Movement is an umbrella, the people in the School of Leaders are the spokes that support it and keep it strong. Through fellowship, we encourage each other in spiritual growth and a growing appreciation of the Cursillo purpose, mentality and method. The members of the Secretariat are the servants of the servants; their role is to be one of simple service to the Movement. The living and sharing of what is FUNDAMENTAL TO BEING CHRISTIAN! • The guardians of the purity of the Method and Charism of Cursillo. • Responsible for making known the Mentality, Essence, Purpose, and Method and it's development through appropriate means in light of the Foundational Charism. The Diocesan Cursillo Coordinator (previously Lay Director) should always be a layperson responsible for the technique and methodology of Cursillo. The Diocesan Cursillo Coordinator creates and oversees the meeting agenda and ensures that all members fulfill their roles. The Chairperson of the School of Leaders determines the rollos for the Doctrinal and Technique presentations for the School and facilitates the School of Leaders. The Chairperson ensures that a study curriculum is set up and maintained for the School. The Chairperson of the Pre-Cursillo ensures that the selection and preparation of candidates who will live a Cursillo Weekend are appropriately implemented. The Chairperson will ensure that the Secretariat, or person delegated by the Secretariat receives an application for each candidate that is appropriately completed. They ensure that the sponsor or group sponsoring the candidate knows him/her and has established a sincere friendship to ensure a smooth transition from the Pre-Cursillo to the Post-Cursillo by way of the 3-Day Weekend. The Chairperson of the Pre-Cursillo ensures that the selection and preparation of candidates who will live a Cursillo Weekend are appropriately implemented. The Chairperson of the 3-Day Cursillo Weekend ensures that the facility and all the necessary elements and supplies are available for the Cursillo Weekend. This Chairperson can also recommend members from the School of Leaders for the (Weekend) team to the Secretariat for approval. The Chairperson of the Post-Cursillo ensures that every Cursillista within the Diocesan Movement can grow in their Fourth Day. This is accomplished by ensuring a link exists between the Secretariat and the Ultreya within the diocese. Furthermore, the Chairperson ensures that the Ultreyas maintain their essence. The Chairperson is also responsible for determining and scheduling necessary Diocesan, Regional, and National workshops. The secretary will keep the minutes of all Secretariat meetings and distribute them promptly to anyone who should receive them. They also ensure all mailing lists are up to date. The treasurer will manage financial matters and ensure the Diocesan Movement is financially solvent and that all local, regional, and national obligations are met. The Spiritual Advisor, always a priest, deacon, or vowed religious, is responsible for matters concerning doctrine and conscience. He is the link between the Secretariat and the local Bishop.
